gosha nagara
[go SHAH na GOR ah] orig. Azerbaijan
The gosha nagara are a pair of small kettledrums made of clay covered in animal skin. They are struck with the fingers, thumb, palm and heel of each hand, or they are played with sticks. One drum functions as a treble drum, the other as a bass.
The gosha nagara are used in Azerbaijani classical and folk music and are played less frequently than the nagara, a larger kettledrum.
